Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

SDA refers to the bricks and mortar — the physical home itself — and not the day-to-day support services. However, participants in SDA may also receive Supported Independent Living (SIL) or other supports in their home.

SDA homes are specially designed and built to include features such as:

  • Wheelchair accessibility
  • Assistive technology integration
  • Robust or high physical support designs
  • Improved liveability features for sensory or cognitive needs

Frequently asked questions

SDA is only available to a small number of NDIS participants who meet strict eligibility criteria. This includes having:

  • Extreme functional impairment
  • Very high support needs
  • SDA funding included in their NDIS plan

If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, our team can help guide you through the process

SDA is funded separately under the NDIS. The funding is paid directly to the SDA provider and covers the cost of the specialist housing — not your personal care or supports (which are funded separately, e.g., via SIL).
